In action – Capital-Image’s operations now carbon neutral |
L'agence a débuté son programme de développement durable en 2007 et a depuis mis en œuvre plus de 50 mesures pour réduire son empreinte écologique.
The agency started a sustainable development program in 2007 and since then has put in place over 50 measures to reduce its ecological footprint. Montreal, June 9, 2008 – Capital-Image, a boutique agency in integrated communications, today took an important step in its sustainable development program by obtaining a carbon neutral certification program from Planetair. This initiative is intended to compensate for CO2 emissions generated by the agency’s activities in 2007. The report card of emissions was established independently and according to a strict protocol by the Pembina Institute, a Canadian leader in environmental protection. “We are very proud of this accomplishment, because it reflects the convictions and daily commitment of the 15 members of our team toward protecting the environment,” Yvon Desautel, President of Capital-Image said. “This first step is a manifestation of our will to compensate annually for the impact of our activities and is also testimony to our determination to continually review our processes and practices to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions even further.” On the heels of the Declaration of the Communicators and Public Relations Professionals of Quebec on Sustainable Development, published on October 4, 2006, Capital-Image created a green committee to develop strategies and an action plan. Beginning in 2007, over 50 measures related to the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) were identified and implemented at Capital-Image. Early in 2008, the agency hired the Pembina Institute for a CO2 emissions assessment. Through Planetair, an organization that helps individuals, companies and institutions reduce their ecological footprint, Capital-Image bought “Gold Standard” certified carbon offset credits that finance renewable energy projects in Madagascar, Indonesia and India. “We congratulate the Capital-Image team for its commitment to becoming carbon neutral,” Katie Laufenberg, energy efficiency analyst for the Pembina Institute, said. “Buying carbon credits is just part of the equation, but the commitment to continually reduce internal emissions plays an even more important role in achieving carbon neutrality. Even before hiring us, Capital-Image had already put in place initiatives to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. By continuing on this route and maintaining its commitment to remaining carbon neutral, Capital-Image is showing leadership and is showing the way to its peers.”
